This was a terrific challenge. I tried to think what hadn't been done in the books to avoid redundancy. The dangerous/sexy older man type hadn't been explored yet. Ramona was attracted to his smoldering eyes and music knowledge, but was turned off by his creepy lack of anything else (including furniture for his apartment).
He's some kind of a wizard, stuck in the ancient days of analog.
